Best Buy recalls almost 1 million pressure cookers after spewed contents burn 17 people

Certain Secura Air Fryers Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

In a recent announcement by Best Buy, it has been revealed that certain Secura air fryers are being recalled due to potential fire and burn hazards. The recall, which was made in accordance with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, affects a total of 930,000 pressure cookers that were sold nationwide.

The reason for the recall is a defect in the air fryers, which can cause hot food and liquid to spew from the devices, posing a risk of burns to those nearby. Best Buy has received 31 reports of contents being expelled under pressure, resulting in 17 people suffering burn injuries. Some of these injuries were reported to be second-degree and severe.

It has been determined that the Insignia electric pressure cookers have incorrect volume markings on their inner pots, which can lead to the ejection of overfilled contents when pressurized. These recalled cookers were manufactured in China and were sold both in Best Buy stores and online, including on Amazon. The affected units were available for purchase between October 2017 and June 2023, with prices ranging from $50 to $120.

The recall covers Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers with the following model numbers: NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or MC80SS9. Additionally, the inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS, sold separately as replacements, are also included in the recall.

For consumers who have purchased these recalled cookers, it is crucial to stop using them immediately. Instead, they should contact Best Buy to arrange for a replacement of the inner pot and floating valve, which is used to signal pressure. Best Buy can be reached at 888-359-4485 from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT. Alternatively, customers can visit the website https://www.recallrtr.com/pc or www.bestbuy.com for further assistance.

This is the second recall involving pressure cookers in recent months. Previously, Sensio recalled 860,000 pressure cookers in August after more than 60 people suffered burn injuries from ejected contents.
