Chick-fil-A rest stop locations should stay open on Sundays, some New York lawmakers argue

Chicken Chaos in NY

There is a recent bill in New York that would require all Chick-fil-A locations at Thruway rest stops to open on Sundays. This is causing a lot of trouble for the chain, which traditionally closes on Sundays, allowing employees to worship or rest.
The bill insists that eateries at rest areas in the state highway should remain open 7 days a week. It was noted that although Chick-fil-A already operates at 7 of the Thruway’s 27 service areas, these Sunday closure policies don’t work for them. The fast-food chain did not comment on the measure. The bill excludes temporary concessions like farmer’s markets.
This legislation is not sitting well with some Republican lawmakers. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham took to social media, calling the proposal an “insanity” and stating it’s a violation of the company’s constitutional rights. Despite this opposition, the new bill wouldn’t apply to current Chick-fil-A locations, and there is confusion as to why this senator from South Carolina is getting involved in a New York state bill rather than those in his state.
Despite this chaos, there may be no need to worry. Chick-fil-A has already signed a 33-year contract with the New York highway system, and the company’s Sunday closure was taken into account. Additionally, the brand’s current locations at Thruway stops would not be impacted by the bill.
