Detroit Pistons lose NBA record 27th straight game in one season

Detroit Pistons Set History Losing Streak in NBA

In NBA history, The Detroit Pistons stands out for the wrong reasons, after becoming the first team to lose 27 consecutive games in a season. They suffered a 118-112 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night which placed them in this unfortunate position.

During an away game in Brooklyn on Saturday, The Nets exemplified their dominance by defeating the Pistons, which resulted in the 26th consecutive loss for Detroit. This achievement matched the record set by the 2010-2011 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-2014 Philadelphia 76ers for the most losses in a row within a single season.

Detroit no longer shares the unwanted mark and their next target is the overall record of 28 straight losses held by the Philadelphia 76ers.

They face the NBA-leading Boston Celtics next, where they could at least match the current record with a game on the road this Thursday.

Like many games this season, the game against Brooklyn started with some hope as Detroit led 9-1 and even had a 14-point lead in the first quarter. However, their subpar shooting, defensive lapses, and turnovers allowed Brooklyn to take the win, continuing Detroit’s misery.

Despite having a 97-92 lead in the final quarter, Detroit could not maintain it. Cade Cunningham, scoring 41 points, was a shining star but lacked the essential support to propel the Pistons to victory. Bojan Bogdanovic performed decently with 23 points before fouling out, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

In the last minute, fans chanted, “Sell the team! Sell the team!” expressing their dissatisfaction, though Pistons owner Tom Gores wasn’t present at the game to hear it.
